BC Summer Chess Festival - Rapid Championship

Format: 5-Round Swiss in 2 Sections- Open and Junior


Round Dates and Times:

Round 1: Friday, August 1, 2025 @ 12:00 PM PDT

Round 2: Friday, August 1, 2025 @   1:00 PM PDT

Round 3: Friday, August 1, 2025 @   2:00 PM PDT

Round 4: Friday, August 1, 2025 @   3:00 PM PDT

Round 5: Friday, August 1, 2025 @   4:00 PM PDT


Location: University of British Columbia, 1961 East Mall, Vancouver, BC V6T 1Z1 Canada, Irving K. Barber Learning Centre, Room IBLC 261 (Get Directions)


Time Control: 20 Minutes Plus 5 Seconds’ Increment Per Player Per Game


Ratings: The Open Section will be CFC-Quick- and FIDE-Rapid-Rated; the Junior Section will be CFC-Quick- and CMA-rated. Starting ranks and pairings will be based on CFC Quick ratings. USCF Ratings will be taken at par with CFC Ratings. Estimates will be used for unrated players

Tie-Break Procedure: Monetary prizes will be shared and split evenly among eligible participants tied in the final standings. Participants tied for any of the top 3 spots in the final standings of the Junior Section will play 5-minute tie-break games over-the-board to determine who will receive the hardware (i.e. medals)



Registration: Please email: daniel.rokhvarger@yahoo.ca with your full name and CFC Number. Please indicate which section you wish to register for. If you would like to join the Junior section, you must be a student enrolled in classes ranging from Kindergarten to Grade 12. Those choosing the Junior section should include their CMA number 

For new CMA players, please provide the following: City/Town, Province, Postal Code, grade and school of the registrant

For new CFC Players, please provide the following: City/Town, Date of Birth, and Email address of the registrant

Payments of registration fees are accepted by e-transfer to the above-mentioned email address. Registration is complete when payment is received


Registration Fees (Both Sections; See Above For Payment Method):

$50 regular entry fee; $5 early bird discount applied if registered by July 1, 2025; $5 late entry fee applied if registered after July 20, 2025; $10 fee applied to on-site registrants and may result in a first-round 0-Pt. BYE. Free entry for GMs/IMs/FMs/WGMs/WIMs/WFMs


Refund Policy: 100% refund available if requested by July 1, 2025; 50% refund available if requested between July 2, 2025- July 20, 2025; no refunds thereafter


CFC Membership Requirements: Registrants in the Open Section of this tournament need to have a valid CFC membership or pay a one-time CFC tournament fee to participate. For more information on fees, please see this link. To purchase your CFC membership online, or to pay a one-time tournament fee, please visit this link and register. Registrants in the Junior Section do not need to have a CFC membership or pay a tournament fee to participate. CFC membership fees for residents of British Columbia are: $38 for adults and $25 for juniors. Single-tournament fees for this tournament for British Columbia residents are: $8 for adults and $4 for juniors

Default Times: Players who do not show up within 20 minutes of the start of a round will forfeit their games, unless the arbiter decides otherwise. Unexplained absences will also lead to automatic withdrawal from all subsequent rounds of the tournament
