From Sri Lanka to Australia: A 38-Year Age Gap at the 2025 FIDE Women’s World Cup

This year’s FIDE Women’s World Cup is a celebration of talent, passion, and diversity — and nothing proves it more than the incredible 38-year age gap between two remarkable players.

🇱🇰 Oshini Gunawardhana Devindya, just 13, makes history as Sri Lanka’s youngest-ever Woman International Master (WIM). She’s also the first Sri Lankan woman to surpass the 2100 rating mark and the youngest National Women’s Champion in her country’s history.

🇦🇺 On the other side of the board, WGM Julia Ryjanova represents Australia as the most senior competitor. A former Russian Championship bronze medalist and once ranked among the world’s top 50 women, she brings decades of experience to the event.

This inspiring contrast proves that in chess, age is just a number — and brilliance knows no bounds.
