Tania Sachdev : India’s Chess Star in Action at Norway 2025

Tania Sachdev was actively involved in Norway Chess 2025 as a commentator and presenter. She is well-known for her insightful commentary and engaging personality.

She was born on August 20, 1986, in Delhi, she was introduced to chess at the age of six by her father. Her mother quickly recognized her talent and ensured she received professional coaching. Under the guidance of her coach K. C. Joshi, Tania rapidly rose through the ranks, becoming India’s under-12 champion and later winning the Asian under-14 girls’ title in 2000. She also secured a bronze medal at the World Under-12 Girls Championship in 1998.

In 2005, Tania earned the Woman Grandmaster title, becoming the eighth Indian woman to do so. She went on to achieve the International Master title in 2008. Among her most notable victories are two Indian Women's Championship titles (2006 and 2007) and an Asian Women’s Chess Championship title in Tehran in 2007. 

She has also won the Commonwealth Women’s Championship three times in 2016, 2018, and 2019. Her consistent performance earned her the prestigious Arjuna Award in 2009, one of India’s highest honors for athletes.
