The Chess Federation of Sri Lanka has announced one of the most exciting chess events of the year — the Sri Lanka National Chess Excellency Awards Blitz Championships 2025. Scheduled to take place on 1st June 2025 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo, this tournament promises a thrilling blend of fast-paced chess and entertainment.

This championship is more than just a chess tournament. It’s an opportunity for young talent to shine and a celebration of excellence in the Sri Lankan chess community.
Age Categories:
Competitors will be grouped into multiple age categories for both Open and Girls divisions:
- Under 6 – born after 2019
- Under 7 to Under 15 – born between 2010 and 2018
- Open Category – for all other participants
Awards and Recognition:
- Trophies for champions in all categories
- Gold, silver, and bronze medals for the top three
- Merit certificates for 4th and 5th places
- Participation certificates for all players
- Theme: “Beat the Clock, Feel the Beat”
Tournament Format:
- FIDE rules and regulations will apply
- Swiss System pairing: 7 to 9 rounds
- Time control: 3 minutes + 2 seconds increment per move
- Final decisions rest with the Chief Arbiter
