Queen's Indian Cafe to Host First-Ever Blitz Chess Tournament

Mexicali, Baja California – Chess enthusiasts, get ready! Queen's Indian Cafe (Café y Ajedrez) is set to host its inaugural Blitz Chess Tournament on Monday, June 30, 2025, at 6:30 PM. The tournament will take place at the cafe's location on Boulevard Lázaro Cárdenas #987, Col. Las Flores.

This exciting event has a limited capacity of 16 players, so early registration is encouraged. The entry fee is $100.00 m.n.

The tournament will feature a single category with attractive prizes for the top three finishers. The first-place winner will receive $1,000.00, a medal, and a diploma. Second place will be awarded $500.00, a medal, and a diploma, while the third-place finisher will receive $300.00, a medal, and a diploma. Participants can also request a certificate of participation.

The game rhythm will be 5 minutes plus a 3-second increment per move. The competition will follow a 7-round Swiss system with a break after the fourth round. The official FIDE pairing program, Swiss Manager, will be used, and pairings will be final. FIDE (International Chess Federation) rules will govern the play.

Players should note that there is a strict no cell phone policy in the playing area; phones must be turned off and stored in bags. The organization will provide all necessary boards, pieces, and clocks. Any unforeseen situations will be resolved by the Organizing Committee
